Perhaps one of the most famous markets around Adelaide and an absolute must-visit is the Adelaide Central Market. It is one of the oldest markets in the city, dating back 150 years and attracts over 9 million visitors every year. The market is a thriving hub of food and culture and provides a wide range of fresh South Australian produce along with a variety of multi-cultural cuisine where you can grab a bite and immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle.
Brighton Sunday Market
One of South Australia’s biggest open air markets, the Brighton Sunday Market originally started out in 2002 as a car boot style fundraiser to raise money for music students. Since then, the market has continued to grow and has become the place to go to grab a bargain. From bric a brac to food stalls to arts and crafts, there is something for everyone and all profits continue to help local music students.
Gilles At the Grounds
Gilles at the Grounds has become increasingly popular since it first launched over a decade ago. Located within the historic Adelaide showgrounds it is known as the original fashion and design marketplace in Adelaide. Gilles at the Grounds encourages established and up-and-coming designers to showcase their creativity. They are also lovers of vintage and ethical fashion and support reuse, recycle, and re-love concepts. There are up to 120 stallholders on a range of selected dates each year.
Adelaide Farmers Market
A genuine farmers market open every Sunday morning, where you will find the best of South Australian produce brought to you directly from the local farmers who grew it. Adelaide Farmers Market is a truly authentic experience that also showcases a ‘Market Kitchen’ where chefs demonstrate how to cook delicious dishes using the fresh seasonal produce.
Plant 4 Bowden
The Plant 4 Bowden Markets are not to be missed when visiting markets around Adelaide. Plant 4 Bowden aims to bring the community together by holding three markets per week. Wednesday evening and Saturday morning focus on fresh fruit and vegetables with live acoustic music to enjoy whilst you browse. Friday night has a lively vibrant atmosphere with a DJ playing until late, take a blanket and sit on the lush grass with a cold refreshment.
Fisherman’s Wharf Market
Located on the waterfront in Port Adelaide and open every Sunday from 9am-4pm is the Fisherman’s Wharf Markets. A popular choice among locals when looking for a bargain, here you will find hidden gems such as vintage clothing, furniture, antiques, and collectibles. There are 120 stalls spread out over two levels, enough to keep you busy for a few hours hunting for bargains!
Rendezvous Market
Rendezvous is another of the many markets around Adelaide but what makes it unique is its European influence. The markets showcase local artisan’s food, arts and crafts and music. The stallholders have a variety of European cuisine on offer including croissants, crepes, German hot dogs, Dutch waffles and Belgium chocolate. Rendezvous takes place on the first Sunday of the month every two months and is a great way to spend a relaxed morning.
One Planet Market
One Planet Market is a local market which takes place on the third Saturday of each month. It focuses on building a sustainable community by welcoming anyone to come along to buy, sell and exchange garden produce, homemade food, and second-hand goods.
