1. Dookie Rail Trail
When looking for the best Shepparton cycling trails, the Dookie Rail Trail is a great option as it is suitable for all ages and is a relatively short trail perfect for a leisurely ride. You will find the trail nestled between Mount Saddleback and Mount Major and there are two different stages to the ride. Stage 1 is a 9.3km return trip that takes you eastwards towards the Yabba flats where you will pass olive and orange groves, vineyards, and the Dookie Red loams. Stage 2 is a shorter 6km return trip that heads westwards and provides a more open view of the region.
2. Murchison Rail trail
A trail that will appeal to railway enthusiasts and avid bird watchers is the Murchison Rail Trail. The original rail way line was built in 1880s to connect Murchison and Rushworth with Melbourne. The trail is a 15.4km return trip that will take you past the Doctor’s Swamp Wildlife Reserve which is a substantial Red River Gum wetland with an abundance of bird life. The trail also features the historic and newly refurbished bridge which crosses over the Stuart Murray Canal.
3. Kialla Circuit
If you are looking for easy Shepparton cycling trails, then the Kialla circuit is a short casual ride for all abilities. The trail begins at Victoria Park Lake and is a 21km loop on flat sealed roads. This is the perfect trail for a leisurely morning ride offering cyclist Goulburn River frontage views. 4. East Shepparton Circuit
The East Shepparton Circuit is a picturesque trail ideal for an afternoon ride. The 30km circuit starts at Victoria Park Lake and leads you to the eastern outskirts of Shepparton. The trail will take you by some of the region’s famous orchards and dairy farms. Look out for the Chocolate Apple Factory, where you can pop in and try their delicious locally grown Pink Lady Apples, which have been dipped in caramel and covered in tasty treats! The perfect place to take a break and enjoy something sweet.
5. Toolamba Circuit
The Toolamba Circuit begins at Victoria Park Lake and is a 45km trail along the Yanha Gurtji Shared Path Network through Shepparton Regional Park to the town of Mooroopna. This Shepparton cycling trail will take you by some of the key orchard and dairy farms as well as the small town of Toolamba. The trail features many river and creek crossings so keep an look out for the local wildlife. Make sure to also keep your eyes peeled for the Moooving Art Cows which are a public art exhibition featuring vibrant and life-sized 3D cows. The exhibition is a tribute to the strength of the dairy industry in Greater Shepparton and includes 90 cows in total… can you spot them all during your visit?
6. Violet Town Loop
The Violet Town Loop is a trail for more serious cyclists who don’t mind a slightly longer ride. You will not be disappointed by the breathtaking views of the Strathbogie Ranges which rise above the town. The 99km trail is generally flat with a few rolling hills and will lead you into the quaint town. It is a lovely place to stop for a break and wander around the unique shops and art galleries before heading back to Shepparton.
