1. Grab a drink at a pub you’ve never been to
In Adelaide there are a number of great pubs and bars to visit across the city and its suburbs which are just waiting to be discovered. If you always head to the same place for your craft beers or local wines, maybe it’s time to switch things up. Whether it’s a modest watering hole you’re looking for, or a bar worthy of design awards, we’ve got a few suggestions. Why not try:
- The Exeter Hotel – located in the centre of Adelaide’s East End precinct
- Port Admiral – Port Adelaide’s historic, iconic waterside pub
- The Cumby – an alfresco beer garden and pub great for grub and drinks
- Benjamin on Franklin – gastropub with cosy corners, plush armchairs and fireplaces
- Grace Emily Hotel – community spirit and live local music at its best
2. Explore some of Adelaide’s gardens
Although Adelaide’s natural landscapes are stunning, there are a number of manmade natural spaces which add a sense of calm to your day. Adelaide Himeji Gardens is a traditionally-styled Japanese garden, gifted from Adelaide’s sister city, Himeji. Wander around the small garden and sit down with your coffee. You might even see a turtle or two! If you’re looking for a little bit more space, drop into the botanical gardens for a walk – both the one in the city and in the hills will wow you.
3. Head to a rooftop bar
Adelaide is known for its great selection of rooftop bars and when it comes to things to do in Adelaide for couples, there’s nothing better! Across the city, a selection of rooftop bars including 2KW, The Mayfair’s Hennessy Rooftop Bar, Merrymaker Rooftop Bar at Hotel Indigo and Sol Rooftop Bar and Restaurant are great for views. However across Adelaide’s suburbs there are some rooftop bars with a little less altitude to discover. You might like to pop into West at Henley, or The Unley, for a choice you can’t regret.
4. Enjoy a romantic dinner
Adelaide spoils guests for choice when it comes to wining and dining – there’s no doubt about that. From the city’s seaside spots, to its quirky East End eateries and award-winning restaurants, there’s plenty to try. During your trip to the city, why not book in for a meal at the light and airy Restaurant Botanic where Modern Australian cuisine is conjured up using sustainable produce. The views and scenery make it even more special!
5. Sail away on a boat
One of best things to do in Adelaide for couples involves heading to the seas. With Temptation Sailing, guests can hop aboard an incredible sailing catamaran from Glenelg and enjoy a number of fantastic experiences. Pick a wild dolphin tour, an afternoon tea cruise, a coastal day cruise or a twilight cruise, or perhaps book a private charter and enjoy some time at sea. With a load of experiences to choose from, sailing has never been this accessible!
6. Discover Adelaide’s art and culture
On a rainy day, you can’t go wrong with a weekend of exploration in some of Adelaide’s museums and galleries. There are a number of spots to choose from in the city and you could easily spend a day getting lost in some of the city’s best spots. Try the Art Gallery of South Australia or perhaps the Jam Factory in the city’s West End for some art from many years ago until today. Visit the French Renaissance-style Mortlock Wing at the State Library or visit Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute. Whatever you decide to do, there’s plenty of local art and culture to soak up.
7. Head to Adelaide Central Market
A getaway to Adelaide isn’t complete without a trip to the central markets. With over 70 traders under one roof, visitors can enjoy local food, produce, coffees and much more in one buzzing location. It’s one of the largest undercover fresh produce markets in the Southern Hemisphere! Come by for breakfast or maybe an evening bite and sample some of Adelaide’s finest local and international food.
