Basham Beach
Basham Beach is a picture-perfect stretch of pristine coastline located on the southern coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula. During a weekend getaway to the region, Basham is a great spot to enjoy swimming, surfing, fishing, and admiring the breathtaking views of the rugged cliffs and outlying islands. Backed by a beautiful conservation area – Basham’s Beach Regional Park – guests can also follow walking trails here. You may spot the odd seal as you wander, so keep your eyes peeled.
Boomer Beach
The always uncrowded Boom Beach is a great spot to visit during a getaway to Victor Harbor. Home to some very consistent surf outside of the summer months, experienced surfers head here for the exposed reef break. Located between Port Elliott and McCracken, Boomer Beach is fairly long and spacious and can cater to secluded picnics and dips in the sea. When it comes to quiet beaches near Victor Habor this is a great place to start.
Petrel Cove Beach
The beautifully rugged Petrel Cove Beach is a wonderful place to spot wildlife, to surf and to enjoy relaxing walks along the stunning Fleurieu Peninsula coastline. Located just next to the Bluff, Petrel Cove Beach is very rocky and surfers should note the difficult conditions before attempting to surf here. Of particular note here, The popular Heysen Trail goes right past this stunning little cove. Choose to walk a small portion of the trail and you’ll find yourself wandering along some of the most beautiful coastline in South Australia. At Petrel Cove Beach itself, dolphins and seals are spotted year round, so make sure you bring your binoculars!
Waitpinga Beach
The gorgeous orange sands of Waitpinga Beach, just west of Victor Harbor, set the scene for fantastic hikes, surfing and picnics. A beautifully rugged scene to admire, the beach is backed by flourishing foliage through which hikes – including the Heysen Trail – guide walkers through stunning Australian coastal bush. It should be noted that only experienced surfers should attempt to surf the waves here, and swimming is not advised due to the dangerous nature of the waves.
Port Elliott Beach
Perhaps the most popular beach on the Fleurieu Peninsula, the gorgeous Port Elliott Beach is located in the tourist town of Port Elliott. Only 10 minutes by car from Victor Harbor, Port Elliott is home to boutique shops, some great eateries and perhaps the very best bakery in the state. Port Elliott Beach itself is host to a cafe and facilities including showers. The sandy beach here sees lots of tourists during the summer months, but it’s easy to see why! A small the rocky surrounds and safe sandy shores make for the perfect setting for family getaways, whilst a pier at the west end of the beach is used for jumping into the turquoise sea. Port Elliott is a great location for a swim.
Middleton Beach
Middleton Beach is a surfer’s paradise in South Australia, welcoming beginners and experienced surfers throughout the year. It’s also a great location for a swim. Composed of a long stretch of sand, the beach here trails on for a while and offers plenty of space for sunbathing and picnics. Middleton Beach is also known to be a great whale watching beach during the winter months. Along this stretch of beach, walkers and cyclists can also enjoy the Encounter Bikeway, which provides a great coastal route along the coastline. Meanwhile, a Kombi Surf van here also offers surf lessons and hire.
