Whilst the river stretches over 2,500 kilometres in total (it’s actually the country’s longest river) from the Australian Alps, its section that winds through South Australia has resulted in the creation of many wonderful towns and regions for tourists and locals to explore.

1. Frank Jackman Memorial Lookout
Location: Long Flat SA 5253
Frank Jackman Memorial Lookout is a scenic lookout which commemorates Frank Jackman (who was the Commissioner of Highways from 1958 to 1966). Head here for sunset views across the river. There’s some seating here for your comfort, making it a great place to spend some time admiring the scenery.
2. Lindsay Sims Memorial Lookout
Location: Murray Bridge East, SA 5253
The Lindsay Sims Memorial Lookout is less of a spectacular lookout point and more of a place at which to have a picnic and enjoy the greenery. Lindsay Sims was a prominent philanthropist and an inventor and her memorial here serves as a great spot for some peace and quiet.
3. Port Mobilong Lookout
Location: Wharf Rd, Murray Bridge SA 5254
Located in Murray Bridge itself, the Port Mobilong Lookout is perfect for those seeking a glimpse of the river and some space for the kids to explore. You’ll get views of the bridge here and there is shaded seating, perfect for a quick snack.
4. Sunnyside Lookout
Location: Sunnyside Lookout, Burdett SA 5253
Sunnyside Lookout is an absolutely beautiful spot to capture some views of the Murray River. From up high here, you’ll glance over across the majestic and characteristic Murray River landscape. This one’s definitely worth a visit if you’re staying in Murray Bridge.
5. Lookout at Crawford Crescent (Mannum)
Location: Crawford Cres, Mannum SA 5238
The lookout here has the perfect set up, making it easy for you to spend an hour and enjoy lunch. Picnic tables under the shade provide plenty of comfort for you and your family, whilst the incredible views of the water make for the perfect backdrop.
Further afield Murray Bridge lookouts
Heading out of Murray Bridge to the north, you’ll find that the Murray River begins to take on a more dramatic form. The orange cliffs cut out by the water here are magnificent to say the least. The following lookouts would make for great stops on a self guided drive to see the best of the Murray River and the Murraylands region.
6. Big Bend Lookout

Big Bend Lookout reveals some of the most stunning orange cliff faces of the Murray River. Arguably, this is one of the best Murray Bridge lookouts and a great spot to take some photographs and admire absorb the atmosphere of the Murray River. You’re also guaranteed to see some great bird life here as well.
7. Walker Flat Lookout
Location: Walker Flat SA 5238
Highly characteristic of the Murraylands and the Riverland region, Walker Flat Lookout provides visitors with the perfect spot to take a break and admire the landscape. Take advantage of the shaded area and hang out for a while.
8. Len Kroehn Lookout
Location: 4719 Hunter Rd, Nildottie SA 5238
Len Kroehn Lookout is another great spot to stop and capture a glance of the majestic river. You’ll find some great colours here – with the green gums and the orange cliffs showing off all their glory!
9. Graetz Lookout
Location: Stott Hwy, Swan Reach SA 5354
Visiting Swan Reach? Stop at Graetz Lookout for some wonderful bird watching opportunities and a quiet moment to mentally capture the Murray River.
